There are thousands of mosquito species which had been identified thus far. Nevertheless, there are several species which is of importance because they are vectors for a number of infectious diseases affecting millions of people per year.
Scientific Name: Aedes aegypti
Description: Commonly known as Aedes Mosquito in Malaysia.
It is considered the most important mosquito species in Malaysia.
They are known to be the vector for Dengue Fever and Zika Fever.
The Asian Tiger Mosquitoes often feed at dusk and dawn, usually occur indoors, in shady areas, or when the weather is cloudy.
These mosquitoes prefer to breed in areas of clean stagnant water, such as flower vases and pots, water trapped in discarded tires as well as toilet tanks inside the house.
The lifespan of an adult Asian Tiger mosquito is 2 to 4 weeks. The eggs can survive in a dry state for over a year which allow the larvae to emerge after the dry condition is over.

Scientific Name: Culex spp.
Description: Culex tritaeniorhychus and Culex vishnui are two important Culex mosquito species because they are vector of Japanese encephalitis (JE).
Adults Culex mosquitoes normally lay their eggs in low lying flooded areas such as grasses and fallow rice fields, but these species can also be found in wells, ponds, ditches and also water storage container inside the house.
Adult Culex mosquitoes normally start feeding around mid-afternoon, and reaches a maximum around dusk.
These species are typically feed on wild birds, domestic pigs and other animals and it is from these animals that the Culex mosquitoes transmit Japanese encephalitis to humans.

Description: Anopheles mosquitoes are vector of Malaria.
Out of over 400 species of this mosquito identified, more than 100 species can transmit human Malaria.
Anopheles mosquitoes breed in wide range of habitat but mostly prefer clean and unpolluted water.
Larvae of Anopheles mosquitoes have been found in fresh or salt water marshes, mangrove swamps, rice fields, the edges of streams or rivers and even in temporary rain pools.
Most Anopheles mosquitoes are active at dusk or dawn but some are active at night.
