There are different ant control methods available in Malaysia. These methods are:

  1. Biological Control
  2. Adult Trapping
  3. Larviciding
  4. Adulticiding
  5. Regular Inspection
  6. Mante's Method

1. Biological Control

Biological control is to use natural enemies to manage mosquito population.

Effective biological control include keeping or raring of predatory fish like Mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis), Guppy fish (Poecilia reticulate) or Tillapia in ponds or water tanks.

2. Adult Trapping

A number of mosquito adult traps are available in the market.

These traps are able to produce carbon dioxide, octanol, heat or light, or a combination of those, to attract and lure mosquitoes and trap them in a container where they will die.

3. Larviciding

Larviciding is using insecticides to kill mosquito larvae.

Insecticides used are usually in granular or liquid forms and directly apply to water source infested with mosquito larvae.

This method also could be used on non-consumption water as a precaution measure.

4. Adulticiding

Adulticiding is killing of mosquito adults by means of insecticides application.

Insecticide solutions are normally blanket applied through misting or fogging method aiming to cover a large area.

These methods are nevertheless like “fire-fighting” to temporary kill of the adult population whilst the emerging larvae are untouched.

New wave of adults would emerge almost quite immediately after the insecticide effect subside.

5. Regular Inspection

Controlling outbreak of mosquitoes should be a communal effort.

This is because adult mosquitoes can fly in a radius of 100 meters to 5 kilo meters to look for a breeding site.

Besides keeping an area clean and free of standing water, regular inspection and subsequently destruction of mosquito breeding sites shall be carried out.
