In Malaysia, two of the species that are commonly seen in our living environment are American cockroach and German cockroach.
Scientifically known as Periplaneta americana.
The American cockroaches are by far the most common species found in our house.
In dwelling areas they are usually found hiding inside manholes, septic tanks or sewers in the afternoon.
At night they would crawl out from their hiding places to forage food in our kitchen and food processing and disposing areas.
Scientifically known as Blattella germanica.
The German cockroaches are the common species found in food outlets.
It is one of the smallest domestic cockroaches with body size of 10 – 15 mm in length.
They are usually being carried back through packaging or boxes from poorly maintained infested food outlets.
